The three Great Apes are menacing predators that can be found in the jungle biome. Each uses either sight, smell, or hearing to track down your nichelings. All of the Apes spawn at the age of 5 and live for 95 days up to the age of 100, and are immune to venom. When killed, they drop 10 meat.

Big Eyed Ape[]

The Big Eyed Ape, also known as the Seeing Ape, uses vision to track your creatures. It has incredibly good eyesight, featuring large blue eyes and shaggy orange fur.

Strategy[]

Camouflage will help your creatures hide, and Distasteful Appearance will make your creatures look less appetizing. Camouflage can be increased by hiding in the grass and by having certain patterns. The best way to get maximized camouflage is by having stripes and black fur color; hiding in long grass gives a bonus +2. Distasteful Appearance can be increased by the genes Toxic Body, Derp Snout, Bearyena Snout, and Sabertooth Fangs.

Big Eared Ape[]

The Big Eared Ape, also known as the Hearing Ape, uses its incredible hearing to track down your nichelings. It has large purple ears and dark green fur with yellow spots. The Big Eared Ape has a goblin-like face, resembling the Derp Snout.

Strategy[]

Maximizing your Stealth will make your creatures hard to detect; Velvet Paws and smaller (Normal/Lean) bodies are especially helpful. Stepping on leaves will make a loud sound and remove all Stealth, so be sure to avoid those.

Big Nosed Ape[]

The Big Nosed Ape, also known as the Smelling Ape, uses smell to hunt your creatures. It has an incredibly strong nose, with a long snout, huge nostrils, and blue-and-black fur.

Strategy[]

Some genes will help make your creature Scentless, and a Stinky Tail will give your creature a Distasteful Scent. Rolling in a patch of mud will also help disguise your nicheling's smell. Your may want to avoid harvesting Smelly Fruit from a Smelly Fruit Tree; though an otherwise beneficial food source, it will make your creatures very easy to find because it gives them the status affliction 'Smelly', which cancels out all Scentless stats. To remove the Smelly status effect, a packmate must use two actions to lick the fruit juice off the creature.
